Ecologist, Samburu Landscape

AWF is seeking a motivated and high performing professional who will be responsible for ensuring that ecological information is integrated into natural resource planning, implementation and documentation. 

The position will provide information on key ecological priority interventions and monitoring to AWF’s Samburu Landcape, leading in acquiring, analyzing and integrating ecological information into the specific landscapes program implementation and learning.  This position will entail field travel and work with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake/implement ecological work in the landscape
  • Manage key aspects of the ecological work in the project
  • Undertake land-use and natural resource management planning with stakeholders and landscape team
  • Provide support on specific species research linking with AWF science team
  • Responsible for development and management of appropriate partnerships with other ecologists, researchers and other stakeholders (community) relevant to conservation science.
  • Participate in proposal writing and fundraising for AWF projects
  • Responsible for providing relevant information needed for AWF’s Program Impact Measurement Assessment on a timely basis
  • Provide support to other areas of AWF program in project including conservation logic for interventions in single species research, enterprise, land, capacity building and leadership
  • Lead in integrating ecological information to AWF Landscape Program-adaptation

Qualifications

  • PhD or Master’s Degree (MSc) in relevant field in ecology of natural resources
  • 5 years’ experience and above if MSc. PhD is preferred with 2-3 years’ experience post qualification
  • Environmental Impact Assessment and statistical of research, wildlife species/habitats surveys, basic understanding of GPS techniques, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), software skills.
  • Ability to work with various stakeholders such as community projects
  • Knowledge of  participatory planning methods and good  presentation skills
  • Computer Literacy  – Word, Spreadsheet, statistical package (SPSS, SAS)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide group of collaborators, including proactive sharing of information and reporting
