The Mechanic/Driver will be responsible for maintaining and repairing vehicles, troubleshooting issues and fixing them aiming to maximize reliability and functionality. S/he will also undertake driving and field assignments and ensure proper maintenance of the vehicle assigned as well as the other facilities and equipment in the Simien Mountains Landscape Program.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Inspect vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately.
  • Inspect vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain, and upgrade.
  • Conduct routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc.) for vehicle functionality and longevity.
  • Repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts and fix issues (eg. leaks).
  • Provide accurate estimates (cost, time, effort) for a repair or maintenance job.
  • Keep logs on work and issues.
  • Maintain equipment and tools in good condition.
  • Provide driving services to the project staff/partners.
  • Ensure that the vehicle is always clean, in good working condition, and has enough fuel for the next activity.
  • Ensure the assigned vehicle is serviced on schedule and its insurance and any licenses or taxes are valid.
  • Maintain the vehicles' log sheets and ensure they are submitted to Accounting in time.
  • Ensure regular checks of the vehicles status and condition and report any problems to the supervisor/AWF Technical Advisor.


  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a mechanic.
  • Having public one (Grade 3) valid driving license with a minimum of five years of driving 4WD vehicles.
  • College diploma or vocational school diploma in automotive technology or auto mechanics or auto engine servicing.
  • Excellent knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic components of vehicles.
  • Working knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and methods.
  • Ability to handle various tools and heavy equipment.
  • Willingness to observe all safety precautions for protections against accidents, dangerous fluids, chemicals etc.
  • Ability to communicate in spoken and written Amharic.
  • Ability to communicate in spoken English.
