AWF is seeking an experienced Forestry and Climate Change specialist to support its current and anticipated work with the local communities to implement a REDD+ program and ensure forest based climate adaption projects are successfully managed in its Congo Landscape. Within the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the bulk of the work undertaken will be at a national policy level liaising with the DRC Government in Kinshasa and various other stakeholders or within the Maringa-Lopori-Wamba (MLW) landscape.
Reporting to the Project Director, Congo Landscape with matrix reporting to the Technical Director, Climate Change Strategy, this position will be responsible for providing technical assistance to AWF’s DRC program office and field missions in the design, evaluation, and implementation of forestry, and climate change activities and managing projects and activities focused on forest management, and conservation, and climate change. In particular, the incumbent will be AWF’s Central African’ representative to work with the technical teams implementing key projects that relate to work with forests, and climate change issues, projects, and programs. In the area of forestry, and climate change, together with the AWF Technical Director of Climate Change Strategy, the incumbent will provide AWF Congo team with technical leadership and assistance, strategic planning and program management, expert policy and technical advice, collaboration with other projects within the Congo region, particularly field missions and other offices, and dissemination of relevant information within AWF and its partners. This position will be based in Kinshasa, DRC but should be able to work across the DRC as well as other countries in the Congo River Basin region. The role will entail occasional travel.
