Systems Administrator, Information Technology

AWF is seeking a high performing and motivated individual to work closely with the Director of Information Technology and Infrastructure in the administration of African Wildlife Foundation Information Technology Systems. The position will be responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation and maintenance of systems hardware/ software and related infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Systems Administration Engineering and Provisioning Roles

  • Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Install and configure systems such as SQL servers, Serenic accounting, SharePoint, and Asset Management applications.
  • Develop and maintain ICT installation and configuration procedures.
  • Contribute to and maintain system standards.
  • Search and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage AWF resources and provide economies of scale.

Operations and Support

  • Perform daily system monitoring in the LAN and WAN, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups and indexing.
  • Perform regular security monitoring of logs to identify any possible intrusions internal and external.
  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
  • Create, change, and delete user accounts per AD Maintenance Procedure or requests.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted staff or users

Maintenance

  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
  • Upgrade and configure system software that supports SharePoint, accounting, project Management, Timesheet and other in house software for operational needs.
  • Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required/ virtual servers
  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.
  • Ensure the integrity of the ICT systems for the organization are audit ready.

Required Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or systems development , Master’s degree in Computer Science with 2+ years of experience desirable.
  • Minimum 4 years systems administration experience at least 2 with international NGO.
  • Knowledge of current Microsoft products, including; Windows 2012 server, Lync 2013, SharePoint 2013, System Center 2012, Exchange 2013, SQL 2008/2012, CRM.
  • Familiarity with IT Systems Audit and Standards (CA certification preferred).
  • Knowledge of firewall and router switching. CISCO certification will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to interpret and/or share information with others, which involves terminology or concepts not familiar to many people; regularly providing advice and recommending actions involving complex issues. Ability to resolve problems within established practices.
  • Responsibilities may require occasional work on evenings and weekends, sometimes with little notice.
  • Occasional travel to the field offices.
  • Ability to serve as a member of the task force when any upgrades or changes to any ICT systems.
