Yoga teacher and AWF employee Amy Rizzotto leads an outdoor class to raise funds for Africa Yoga Project

Ten years ago I began my personal practice of yoga; seven years ago I traveled to Africa for the first time; and two years ago I first learned about Africa Yoga Project (AYP) while looking for a way to connect my love for yoga with my passion for Africa. Over the past decade my yoga practice deepened and I got to a point where I felt it was time for me to share the gifts yoga has given my mind and body with others.

Commencements and Conservation Schools

AWF’s Lupani School in Zambia’s Sekute Chiefdom continues to contribute and enhance the educational needs of the school children in the area. It is one of two AWF schools that have inspired AWF to begin to conceive and craft a continent-wide African Conservation Schools (ACS) initiative to approach educational and conservation needs.

Wildlife Conservation Expo 2012

AWF at the Wildlife Conservation Network

Last month, I had the privilege of representing AWF for the second time at the annual Wildlife Conservation Network (WCN) Expo at the Mission Bay Conference Center of UCSF. Each year, the event features around 20 of the world’s greatest wildlife conservationists who, over the course of the day, share their experiences working to protect the world’s most endangered animals.

Fulfilling my Passion for Africa

Like many of my peers at the George Washington University, I was dedicated to the idea of studying abroad during my junior year. Hungry for a challenge, I decided to stray from the pack and avoid Europe altogether. Looking back, it’s hard to pinpoint the catalyst, but when it came time to apply there was only one place I wanted to go: Senegal.
