The new Manyara Ranch School is an unparalleled example of how conservation can actually enhance the lives of people who share their backyard with wildlife.

Manyara Ranch School Water Well
Water for life

Help AWF bring drinking water efficiently to Manyara Ranch Primary School.

Manyara Ranch in northern Tanzania occupies a critical central location in the Kwakuchinja wildlife corridor between Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Parks and comprises a total area of 17,800 hectares (44,000 acres).

Amidst the ranch (and its wildlife) was a 400 student elementary school, which actually served a whopping 800 students and also had not been repaired in over 20 years. Despite the overcrowded class sizes and the occasional wildlife disturbance, the students were ranked among the best performing in all of Tanzania.

AWF has now relocated the school away from wildlife, and we’ve built new classes and dormitories. Despite the upgraded building and new classrooms, water is still an issue for the school. Currently, there is only one borehole, which does not meet the needs of the whole school community. The school was constructed with a substantial roof surface area, which can be used to harvest rain water, and there are plans underway to get the school connected to another bore hole. However, both these projects lack the necessary funding.

Improved water resources will help the new school stay clean and improve sanitation. Please help us to support the school children and local community in their conservation efforts.

Your gift now will support AWF’s work throughout the African continent and ensure Africa’s wildlife and wild lands endure forever.
