Simien Mountains National Park

Vote to Restore a Rare World Heritage Site

You can help us restore an Ethiopian World Heritage site—Simien Mountains National Park—by voting for AWF in the European Outdoor Conservation Association contest. The treasured park, home to the endangered Ethiopian wolf, the world's rarest canine, is threatened by agricultural development and livestock encroachment, as nearby communities struggle to survive in an area with few economic opportunities. With this grant, AWF will improve park tourism infrastructure and provide tourism training for local people, thereby incentivizing conservation for communities through jobs and income to protect the park.

  Vietnamese Stars Against Rhino Horn

We began March with another big step toward ending demand for illegal rhino horn in Asian countries. AWF, with partners WildAid and CHANGE, and Vietnamese celebrities—including action star Johnny Tri Nguyen—joined forces to bring our demand reduction campaign into Vietnam. The campaign launched with the "Your Worst Nightmare" video, starring Nguyen, and also features additional TV messages, billboards, and print advertisements to end the demand for rhino horn.

An unprecedented 1,004 rhinos were killed in South Africa last year. Your support helps AWF work with consumer nations to reduce demand.

Fun fact: Ratel

  Fun Fact

The sly ratel fumigates beehives with smelly secretions, so it can steal honey—earning it the nickname "honey badger."
