Actress Maggie Q joins our public awareness campaign.

Washington, DC, June 18, 2013 -- Maggie Q is joining fellow WildAid Ambassadors Yao Ming, Li Bingbing, and Jackie Chan for the “Say No” campaign urging consumers not to buy ivory and rhino horn products. The star of "Nikita" filmed several public service announcements in New York City yesterday for the campaign launched in April in partnership with WildAid, African Wildlife Foundation (AWF), and Save the Elephants.

“I am standing once again with WildAid because the demand for ivory and rhino horn are pushing elephants and rhinos closer to extinction,” said Maggie Q. “I can’t imagine a future without these beautiful creatures. And why are they dying? For trinkets, home décor, and hangover cures. We all must take responsibility to either change our behavior or inform those who do not see the destruction they are wreaking on these species with their choices.”

Due to the ivory and rhino horn trade as many as 25,000 elephants are killed every year and up to 95% of the world’s rhinos have been lost in the past four decades, with the last of the species in Mozambique recently falling victim to poachers.

"As we carry out our on-the-ground conservation efforts, it is critical that we also address the demand for illegal wildlife products," says African Wildlife Foundation VP Craig R. Sholley. "Support from Maggie allows us to continue to raise the profile of wildlife crime and penetrate the public consciousness."
