Title: Executive Director, Kenya Land Conservation Trust
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Description: The Kenya Land Conservation Trust (KLCT), a charitable Trust incorporated in April 2005, aims to promote and facilitate the conservation of land, biological diversity and natural resources in Kenya for public benefit through the use of different innovative and existing legal instruments such as purchase, easements, and leases, and to contribute to poverty reduction by promoting innovative sustainable economic activities in resource dependent communities. This position is initially for one year and will be based in Nairobi.

Title: Deputy Heartland Director, Maringa/Lopori-Wamba Heartland
Location: Based in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, with significant time in the field.

Description: AWF is seeking applications for the post of Deputy Heartland Director, Maringa/Lopori-Wamba (MLW) Heartland. This position will be responsible for co-managing AWF’s conservation program in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The Deputy Director will work with the Heartland director to further develop AWF’s landscape conservation program in the Maringa/Lopori-Wamba forest landscape and the conservation and development policy of the MLW-program.

Title: Senior Program Design Officer
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Description: AWF invites applications for the post of Senior Program Design Officer (SPDO) to lead regional fundraising from international donor agencies and handle all aspects of donor relationship management for AWF’s work in Kenya and neighboring countries. The SPDO will be based in Nairobi, Kenya. Key responsibilities:

  • Work closely with field teams in Kenya and across the region to design and monitor programs of interventions for donor funding.
  • Draft high quality and targeted proposals and budgets
  • Build and service a network of relationships
  • Negotiate contracts
  • Maintain a current perspective on all strategic aspects of conservation and related policy work in the region.

Title: Senior Program Design Officer
Location: Preferably Johannesburg, but Lusaka, Zambia, is also possible.
Description: AWF is recruiting for a new Senior Program Design officer to be located in Johannesburg (or Lusaka). The new officer will be responsible for raising funds from government and professional foundation donors, and for all aspects of donor relationship management, for all AWF’s work in its Zambezi and Kazungula Heartlands (includes areas of Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia and Botswana) as well as co-responsible for fundraising from specific donors across the whole of AWF’s Program in Africa. This position will work very closely with the other members of the seven-person Program Design team, particularly with the Senior Director for Program Design in Southern Africa, and with the field based implementation teams and AWF’s senior F&A staff.

Title: Livelihoods Impact Monitoring and Evaluation Officer
Location: One based in Nairobi, Kenya and one based in Johannesburg, South Africa
Description: The African Wildlife Foundation is now recruiting two full time Livelihoods Impact Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officers for its Heartlands Program in Africa. Each position is for a two-year term, and on completion the aim is to have established sufficient internal capacity to develop and maintain the M&E work or to have secured further funding to maintain these as dedicated positions. The positions will be located in Nairobi (covering eastern and central Africa Heartlands) and Johannesburg (covering southern African Heartlands). AWF wishes to roll out methodologies developed for baseline data collection and livelihoods impact monitoring across its Program in 11 countries, focusing on the impact of land management and enterprise interventions. The M&E Officers will work with each of the eight Heartland teams to refine and implement AWF protocols and methodology in key sites, and to ensure sound evaluation of and learning from impact findings.

Charlotte Conservation Fellows
Since 1996, the African Wildlife Foundation has provided educational grants to African pursuing advanced degree studies in conservation-related fields through its Charlotte Conservation Fellowship Program. The application process for the Charlotte Fellowship 2007-2008 class is now closed. AWF is not currently accepting applications.

Internship Program

AWF periodically has openings for interns in our Washington, DC office to assist in our Communications, Program Membership and Accounting departments. Internships allow interns to expand their knowledge of African conservation issues, apply academic knowledge in real life situations, and learn new skills that will enhance future career options.

We are currently inviting applicants for the following internship positions at our Washington, DC office. Interns are required to work between 15 and 20 hours a week.

Administrative Intern
We seek an Administrative Intern to provide excellent front office/ receptionist services as well as other administrative functions. This position supports the Office Manager in maintaining office equipment and supplies, and administrative assistance to other departments where needed.
