The International Gorilla Conservation Programme was established in 1991 by a coalition of wildlife conservation organizations. African Wildlife Foundation was a founding member and provided technical expertise for more than 20 years. Since its inception, IGCP has worked closely with wildlife management authorities, governments, and local communities to ensure the conservation of mountain gorillas and their regional afromontane forest habitat in Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
