Although bushbucks live in both moist and dry habitats, their most important requirement is good cover of forest or bush to provide shelter and food. Hunting and loss of habitat is the largest threat to the bushbuck.

Africa’s Great Apes Need Our Help

Gorillas and Bonobos Face Peril

Two of Africa’s great apes — mountain gorillas and bonobos — are likely the most endangered primates on the planet. Less than 720 mountain gorillas remain and no one knows for sure just how many bonobos are left. The killing of 10 mountain gorillas in 2007 alone is a tragic reminder that we can never relax our vigilance. Together with your help, AWF will step up efforts to safeguard these animals, protect the habitat they need to survive, and give people in the region a stake in ensuring the survival of these great apes by helping communities build businesses based on wildlife conservation that can benefit people and wildlife alike.

With your help we will finish construction on a tourism lodge in Uganda, equip a camp in Congo for scientific ecotourism, and supply much-needed equipment to the rangers that risk their lives to protect these incredible apes.

To keep our efforts on track we must raise $225,000 in the next 60 days. Your gift today, whether large or small, will make a vital difference and will help ensure that Africa’s great apes endure for future generations. If you agree that our world is richer for sharing it with these remarkable creatures, then I urge you to donate today – while we still have time to save them.
