YAOUNDÉ, Cameroon — African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) Chief Executive Officer Kaddu Sebunya will visit Cameroon from April 19–25, 2026, marking a decade since AWF established its in-country operations.

The visit brings together senior government engagements in Yaoundé with direct dialogue with field teams and community members in the Dja landscape, underscoring AWF’s long-standing commitment to conservation in one of Africa’s most biodiverse nations.

Since 2015, AWF has worked across three landscapes—Dja, Campo Ma’an, and Faro—in partnership with the Government of Cameroon, local and Indigenous communities, and development partners. Together, these efforts have delivered measurable results for wildlife, protected areas, and the communities that steward them.

In Yaoundé, Mr. Sebunya will meet with senior officials from the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife (MINFOF) to present AWF’s strategic orientations for Cameroon covering 2026–2030. The discussions will align AWF’s forward-looking vision with Cameroon’s national priorities on biodiversity and sustainable development, while reinforcing a partnership that has spanned anti-poaching strategy, protected area governance, and rights-based conservation approaches.

"Cameroon is central to Africa’s biodiversity future. I envision this visit as both a celebration of our shared achievements and as a recommitment to working hand in hand with government, communities, and partners to secure a thriving future for people and wildlife.”  —Kaddu Sebunya, CEO, African Wildlife Foundation, reiterates.

Mr. Sebunya will also travel to the Dja Faunal Reserve—a UNESCO World Heritage Site spanning over 526,000 hectares of Congo Basin rainforest—to meet with community members and AWF field teams. These conversations will focus on consolidating progress in the landscape and identifying pathways to scale community-led conservation across Cameroon’s three AWF landscapes.

The visit will also include engagements with various AWF partners—an opportunity to recognize a decade of collective effort and to chart the course ahead together.

Across all three landscapes, AWF's work reflects a rights-based approach that centers community voices in protected area governance. Since 2015, AWF has also been building the next generation of Cameroonian conservationists—in 2025, 13 young graduates joined AWF's internship program, with seven from previous cohorts transitioning into full-time staff who will be part of the group engaging with the CEO as the organization commemorates a decade of collective effort.
