The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) invites qualified training institutions based in East Africa to submit proposals to design and deliver Module 2 (Self Leadership & Leading Others) and Module 3 (Organisational Leadership) of the AWF-Wall Leadership & Management Fellowship.

This is a two-year renewable engagement (covering two fellowship cohorts), subject to performance review after Year One.

About the Fellowship

The AWF-Wall Leadership & Management Fellowship is a nine-month program designed to equip young African conservation professionals with leadership and management skills that complement their technical expertise.

The Fellowship is part of the broader AWF-Wall Youth Leadership Program funded by the Wall Family Foundation. It aims to:

  • Develop a new generation of African leaders driving systemic change in conservation.

  • Ground professionals in Africa’s conservation realities while promoting homegrown solutions.

The 2026 cohort runs from April to December 2026 and combines:

  • Virtual monthly learning sessions

  • A five-day in-person workshop in Nairobi (May 25–29, 2026)

  • Coaching and mentorship

  • Innovation projects developed and prototyped during the fellowship

Scope of Work

AWF seeks a consultant to design and deliver:

Module 2: Self Leadership & Leading Others

Focus areas include:

  • Personal leadership and resilience

  • Values alignment and leadership vision

  • Team dynamics and inclusive leadership

  • Conflict resolution and adaptive leadership

  • Stakeholder engagement and team motivation

Module 3: Organisational Leadership

Focus areas include:

  • Systems thinking

  • Strategic problem-solving

  • Change management

  • Innovation in conservation

  • Stakeholder engagement and decision-making

A key component of Module 3 is guiding fellows to develop and test a minimum viable prototype for a conservation-related innovation project within their organisations.

The consultant will also provide coaching support, participate in faculty exchanges, and submit monitoring and impact reports.

Contract Duration

  • Initial engagement: Two (2) years (covering two cohorts starting 2026)

  • Continuation into Year Two is subject to satisfactory performance evaluation

  • Renewable beyond two years subject to AWF approval

Eligibility

  • Open to consultants based in the East African region

  • Consultants outside Kenya must budget for all travel and logistical costs

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in leadership development and innovation training

  • Experience working with conservation, sustainability, or nonprofit organisations preferred

Proposal Requirements

Interested consultants should submit:

  • Cover letter demonstrating understanding of the scope

  • Proposed curriculum and methodology

  • Detailed and transparent budget

  • At least two professional references

  • Evidence of prior relevant work
