TERMS OF REFERENCE (TOR) COPY EDITING AND DRAFTING A SUMMARY DOCUMENT
AWF Uganda Revised Country Programme Strategy 2025-2031
Background
The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) is a leading conservation organization working to ensure wildlife and people thrive across Africa. In early 2024, AWF conducted a deep-dive review of its Uganda Country Conservation Strategy (2021–2031), leading to forward-looking recommendations and a revised Uganda Country Programme Strategy (2025–2031). The updated strategy reflects new priorities based on the evolving national context. To support finalization, AWF seeks professional copy-editing services to refine the document and ensure it effectively communicates the strategic priorities.
Objective
The main objective of this assignment is to deliver high-quality copy-editing services that will ensure the document is clear, structured, and consistent in tone and style, in line with AWF’s communication standards.

| Standardize terminology, formatting, and style across both versions in accordance with AWF’s preferred style guide or industry best practices, ensuring a consistent voice and tone appropriate for AWF’s target audiences. Reference Document

Structural and Logical Flow
| Enhance the organization and logical flow of content in both documents to improve readability and comprehension, including suggestions for better section transitions, headings, and subheadings as needed.

Fact-Checking and Accuracy
| Identify any factual inconsistencies or unclear statements for AWF’s review and clarification. |
Timely Communication | Maintain regular and clear communication with the AWF team to clarify queries, provide progress updates, and ensure smooth coordination throughout the editing process. |
Deliverables
Provide professional copy editing for the full-length Uganda Revised Country Programme Strategy (2025–2031) document.
Prepare a clear, concise, and polished summarized 2-page version of the strategy that captures the key messages and priorities.
Submit edited document with tracked changes for AWF’s review and provide clean, finalized versions incorporating all agreed-upon edits.
Timelines
The assignment will commence on 15th September and is expected to conclude by 17th October 2025, following the schedule outlined below:

Expertise/ Qualifications
At least three (3) years of proven experience in professional copy editing, preferably for strategy documents, reports, or other institutional publications.
Strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality editing of complex documents, showing clarity, coherence, and consistency in tone and structure.
Excellent command of English, with strong grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax skills.
Familiarity with editorial style guides and the ability to align documents with organizational tone, format, and branding guidelines.
Experience working on development, conservation, or policy-related content is an added advantage.
Ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining high editorial standards and attention to detail.
Reporting
The Consultant will report directly to Nashipae Orumoy, Director of Strategic Communications & Marketing at AWF (norumoy@awf.org ), and Kendra Atenya, Communications Assistant at AWF (katenya@awf.org ). Coordination meetings and reviews will be conducted virtually, and all draft and final deliverables will be submitted electronically.
Other Requirements
The copy editor is expected to maintain strict confidentiality regarding all materials and information shared during the assignment. All edited content will remain the intellectual property of AWF. The copy editor must ensure that the language remains neutral, non-political, and non-religious, and must avoid incorporating or retaining any content that could present a conflict of interest with the scope of this work.
