The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) and the Government of the Republic of Zambia have signed an agreement regarding the establishment of a regional office in Zambia. The new agreement also sets out the terms of the collaboration between the two parties for the conservation of wildlife and natural resources.

Ministry of Finance and Economic Development permanent secretary, Boniface Nonde, signed on behalf of the Zambian Government while Dr. Patrick Bergin, AWF President and Chief Executive Officer, signed on behalf of the African Wildlife Foundation.

Mr. Henry Mwima, who has been representing AWF in Zambia during the past year, said the signing of the agreement marked a crucial stage in formalizing Zambia's relationship with AWF.

"We have received a lot of support from many institutions of the government and I would also like to express my thanks to the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) for their support," He said.

AWF works with key partners in the region, such as ZAWA and the department of National Parks and Wildlife Management in Zimbabwe.

Last year, AWF hosted two conservation-planning meetings to identify a list of priority conservation targets to guide and unify the activities within the Zambezi heartland.
